The aim of this study about the Ribera Baixa is the Falange Española Tradicionalista y de las Juntas de Ofensiva Nacional-Sindicalistas and its collateral organizations: the association of veterans, the agricultural trade unionism and the junior organizations, institutions that during the Franco Period maintained the monopoly of the State’s political and union organization. In the case of the Ribera Baixa, it is interesting to state how the Falange had never been present in most of the towns before the war and how it organized itself after 1939 gathering sectors of the rights, often traditionalist and usually linked to the interests of the traditional petty tyranny. The organization of the one-party, and the ideological and political heterogeneous nature of the sectors that took part, caused local tensions that reflected the conflicts between the local ruling factions. The old landowner headmen did not always approve the new organization that wanted to make use of the absolute power: what was valid for the one-party was also valid in general for its collateral organizations, especially in those territories that had lost the war, such as the País Valencià. |
