The Spanish Civil War was over more than seventy years ago, and over and above what has been investigated and analyzed and what is still to do, from the university world and from the public power as well, it was necessary to face up to something that, in spite of its coexistence with everyday reality, hadn’t been sufficiently focused on: Spanish Civil War common graves in Catalonia and in Spain and Francoist symbols that survive around us. Experts’ different contributions let us place ourselves with regard to international situation about multiple or mass burials in other conflicts in contemporary world and how this issue has been faced. They also let us know the current legal framework in the Iberian Peninsula, issued in the legal action related to common graves. Historians, archaeologists, biologists, anthropologists or forensic scientists analyze and think about the work done from 2000 and what is still to do. The other point which with we daily coexist is symbols inherited from the Franco’s dictatorship. There is an open debate about them: keep them or remove them. In this case, historians and lawyers participate in the debate trying to contribute with new reflection elements.
