During the 1930s, the emergence of the Actuació Valencianista d'Esquerra of Barcelona meant the political categorization of a part of the Valencian population who lived in Catalonia. Originated at the end of 1931 and at the beginning of 1932, the AVE became a left, pro-Valencian entity with a clear idea of the Catalan Countries. Under the defence of these political principles, the AVE tried to follow the leading model of the republican Catalonia, namely Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya. It established a close political collaboration with them and asked for the votes of the Valencian people who lived in Catalonia for the party of the presidents Macià and Companys. It also asked for an absolute support to the Catalan regional process. At the same time, and from its pan-Catalan vocation, the AVE tried to adapt the ERC model to the Valencian Country organizing trips to the Valencian regions, where it took outstanding members of Esquerra. Therefore, during 1932-1937, the AVE of Barcelona acted as an intermediary between Catalonia and the Valencian Country in the hope that the principality's nationalism and regionalism could be used as a model for the restoration of the Valencian cultural and political personality.
